Hundreds of students at Vaivase Primary School will be given enhanced accessibility to the digital world following the refurbishment of their computer lab.

Not only that, they will finally have a school library that will improve their literacy as is the goal of a proposal by the school and school committee to the government with the cost of US$30,000, almost SAT$70,000.

The initiative was made possible through the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development partnership with the TX Foundation that has funded the project.

Tzu-Xing (TX) Foundation, a philanthropic organisation based in Taiwan,  has helped schools and organisations the world over.

In an interview with the Samoa Observer, Member of Parliament for Vaimauga No.2, Lenata'i Victor Tamapua said the initiative was a great boost for the academic journeys of the children in their district and in shaping the future of their families and Vaimauga No.3.

"We already have a computer lab built but there are no machines or computers and there are other things that need to be renovated and done like air-conditioning and more," he said.

"It's all about the access. Access to the digital world, computers and so forth and to improve the literacy and that was the main point of our proposal.

"A better library for the students to improve on their literacy. The computer lab will give them access to the digital world and those other things"

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at Vaivase Primary School on Monday, Minister of Women, Mulipola Anarosa Molioo, representatives from the TX Foundation and the Ministry brought the exciting news to the students and staff.

Mulipola highlighted that the project was approved under the government's district development project.

"Selected from the Vaimauga No.2 District Development Plan, this project aims to alleviate poverty and foster sustainable developments in villages with low human development and index," Mulipola said.

Meanwhile, TX Foundation allocated a total of USD$100,000 in total which will also include two other schools. The allocation of the fund is USD$30,000 for each schools including Vaivase Primary School.
