The inquiry into the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, Sefuiva Charlene Malele, is about to be completed. Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr Sailele Malielegaoi, who is also Minister for the Office of the Clerk of the Legislative Assembly (O.C.L.A.), said the report will be handed to him upon its completion and they will accept its findings.

Samoa Airport Authority illegally used public funds to host end-of-the-year Christmas and farewell parties and paid $1000 to a staff member whose house was damaged by fire. Controller and Chief Auditor, Fuimaono Camillo Afele, made these findings in his report on the financial affairs of the Samoa Airport Authority (S.A.A.) to Parliament for the financial year ending June 30, 2013.

The Government will remove the “Green Lane List” after cargo x-ray scanners are installed at the main wharf and Samoa’s two airports.  This undertaking was given by the Minister of Revenue, Tialavea Tionisio Hunt, during an interview with the Samoa Observer, as the cargo express service continues to come under criticism.

No tsunami following earthquake

A 8.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Fiji Islands region yesterday afternoon with the Samoa Government’s meteorology division later advising there is no tsunami threat. The earthquake at 1:19pm (Samoan local time) occurred at a depth of 559 kilometers and a distance of approximately 825 kilometers south west of Apia.

The membership increase of the World Rugby Council to include women will not help Pacific rugby player’s welfare, says a Pacific rugby players organisation. The World Rugby Council (W.R.C) last year increased its seats from 32 to 49, and all the new positions went to women.

Cabinet to respond to inquiry findings

The Cabinet will issue a response to the findings of a Commission of Inquiry that reviewed the proposed merger between the Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) and the National Health Services (N.H.S.). Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi said the findings of the inquiry were discussed by the Cabinet recently and it agreed on a new structure for the merger.
