Fishing as a job on the side

A day off from work can be made better with some fishing time.

And that’s exactly what Tommy Kaitu from the village of Solosolo did yesterday; fishing with some of the men from his village.

“I don’t usually go fishing but since I’m on leave from work for two weeks, I just thought of making use of this time to explore the ocean,” he tells the Village Voice.

“I had eight fish in the morning and I’ve sold six of them already, for $20 each.

“There’s still plenty more where these came from.

“It’s a good season for fishing and that’s why you can see most of the men from my village fishing at this time of the day.”

“There’s heaps of fish out there for us to find so I don’t know why people are complaining; saying there’s a shortage in the number of fish.”

“You still have to try hard because they’re all over the place.”

“We are a blessed country because God has provided us with a lot of resources to live off from and make money from as well.”

“So thanks to this I have extra money to help out my children with school.”

The 40 year old is a father to four children and he works for the Chinese, doing contractual work.

“I love working for the Chinese people and for me, I think it’s good to have a stable job and another job on the side so when you are off from work, you use your time doing something that will benefit you.”

“That’s why I do this because this is my other work and that goes for everyone here with me.”

“Look around us, most of the men are here in the ocean doing the same thing I’m doing.”

“It feels good to have days like these, where you can just relax and enjoy what nature has to offer.”
