The elderly residents of Mapufagalele received a much-needed $2,000 donation this week thanks to the Samoa Stationery and Books ‘Boys Get along Club.’

The money was presented by S.S.A.B’s Sales Assistant Manager, Viali Williams, who said the donation comes from their Social Fund.

Mr. Williams was accompanied by Maniti Lauama, the President of the Club.

Mr. Lauama said the men working at S.S.A.B. donate $2 every pay period and then at the end of the year, they decide which charity they will donate to.

He said the donation is a reflection of their President and C.E.O. Tofilau Fiti Leung Wai’s desire to help the community.

“We at S.S.A.B. believe our elders are our priority and it does not matter whether we are related by blood or not,” Mr. Williams said.

“You know that as Samoans growing up we don’t need a reason to help an elderly whether they are family or not and I believe that is embedded into the hearts of our Samoan people."

“Of course the elderly residents here are special, and that is they are always our first choice of charity."

“When we give, it’s an indication to the elders that we are always thinking about them."

“While it feels good to be on the receiving end, there is also that feeling of self-gratification when giving and this can’t be measured by monetary value.”
