LOOKING FOR A JOB OPPORTUNITY: Sefo Fuiavailili of Levi Sale’imoa desperate for a job to help his family.

The plantation is the last resort for most people in Samoa.

Most of them would rather work so they can secure a regular income.

Welcome to the story of Sefo Fuiavailili, 37, from the village of Levī Sale’imoa.

Mr. Fuiavailili is a single young man who works tirelessly at his plantation to support his family.

But he says he would rather find a regular paying job so he could help his family.

“My family is struggling financially at the moment because there is no one working to earn money to support our family,” he said.

“We have electricity at the moment in our house but we only have one light because we can’t afford to have more than that. So even our bathroom doesn’t have a light in there.”

The family relies on his plantation and a small vegetable garden around the house.

“That is why I really want to find a job right now so that I can support my family with any money I can make,” he said.

Mr. Fuiavailili said depending on the plantation alone for survival at this stage of life in Samoa is not enough at all.

“Life in Samoa right now is really hard and on top of that, things are getting so expensive,” he said.

“If we only depend on the plantation to provide for our daily needs all the time, I don’t think that will work because it takes time for the crops to be harvested.”

“We always have to have another source of income to add on the support we can get from our plantation for an extra dollar.”

Mr. Fuiavailili also mentioned that he needs to get a job to help out with his father’s medical treatment.

“My father has been sick and his medical treatment is really expensive. That’s one thing that motivates me to find a job.”

“We live far from the hospital and every time we have to take him costs us a lot of money.”

“My family is struggling so bad at the moment and I believe this is my time to find a job to help my family out and also to support them.”
