Bedock Dorothee, of Lyon, France, is in love with Samoa’s relaxing atmosphere.

Her interest in nutrition, having studied this particular field for more than 10 years in Paris, is the reason she set foot on Samoa’s shores.

Bedock is working with the National Health Services to visit local schools, communities, churches and hospitals to promote healthy living.

It’s her third day in Samoa as a volunteer doctor and already she is planning to extend her three weeks stay.

“I feel it’s great here,” she said.

“I’ve heard about Samoa when I was a small child when I used to watch the Samoa rugby team play. And this is my first time to Samoa.”

“I love the Samoan people because they are gentle, friendly and cool.”

Bedock shared she was also impressed with the level of respect people have for their elders and the bond that exists within the family.

“In my country, everyone seems very busy and always doing something. But here in Samoa, everyone enjoys their lives. There’s no stress and people are just so laid back.”

Samoa’s weather also seemed to get the best of her.

“I love this hot weather. It rained a little and I don’t mind that because afterwards you can see the rainbow.”

“It is quite a long travel to get here; I had to stop at Singapore and then Auckland before getting to Samoa.”

But no doubt, it was definitely worth the long flight.

“I am glad I came to Samoa. I will tell my friends about my island experience.”

She told the Dear Tourist team that she looks forward to returning.

For a busy person like Bedock, escaping the busy city life and work schedules for an island getaway is definitely a return to paradise.
