Time waits for no man. That is the motto that 32-year-old, Manu Galolo, of Tuanai lives by.

“As a father I have learned a lot of important lessons about life and one of those is never let your energy go to waste, live life like there is no tomorrow.

“I have two children and that encourages me to work even harder,” said Manu.

The Village Voice caught up with Manu at the opening of Tuanai’s School.

“As you can see, I am here to witness what the Japanese has offered for our children, it’s not just some building, it’s a school building worth more than 20 grand.

“It’s a great relief knowing that my children will get an education in a clean and healthy environment.

“Also I’m here today to show my support for my children because events like these will never be forgotten, in fact it will be written as part of history in our village,” he said.

The hard working father also spoke about the high cost of living.

“I am a farmer and my wife works as a waitress in town.

“The money we earn cannot meet the cost of living these days, because it is just way too expensive and the minimum wage is just too low.

“It’s frustrating knowing that life is getting hard by the day, and when I think too much about it’s like a sharp pain on my chest. But like everything that is life and we must accept it.

Regarding the plantation, Manu said it’s very fulfilling. “I work on my plantation daily…and so every Saturday I take my crops to the market I collect up to $300.

“Its good money..... at this point in life, I must say that nothing is handed to you on a silver platter. We all have to go through many hardships, such is life,” said Manu.

The father added that while life is not easy, as parents they should never give up.

“My advice, don’t give up easily because bad days are not here yet. We need to have a positive mindset to see the good in everything and be energized to lead our children in the right path… set good examples so when they grow up they know what to expect in the future,” he said.
