Curtain falls on 2017 Vailima Alo Paopao Festival

The Vailima Alopaopao Festival 2017 ended with a Cultural Show and a closing ceremony at Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel in Vaisigano on Wednesday night.

The Festival featured 10 international teams with paddlers from Tahiti, American Samoa, New Zealand and Australia and local teams.

Following the opening ceremony last Saturday, the Sprint competition kicked off straight away, followed by V1 Races, and traditional to’onai lunch held at Ocean Club Headquaters, Fiafia Village, Maninoa Beach, Siumu last Sunday.

The Long Distance Regatta was a two-day competition from Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pasefika team from Aotearoa won the V6 Mix Masters Iron race, followed by the V6 Open Iron race won by Laumei/Pualele team.

The V6 Masters Women Iron race was won by the Moana Galz team, while local team Nafanua topped the V6 Open Women’s Iron race.

The hosts Alo Paopao/Vaka Manu topped the V6 Open Men Iron race, while the Laumei came in second with Nafanua team in third place.
