Businessman, Namulaulu Leota Sami Leota, is contesting the General Election in March.

He declared his candidacy during the Human Rights Protection Party’s second candidate meeting at their Petesa headquarters, last year.

Namulauulu will be contesting the Fa’asaleleaga No.2 seat currently occupied by Tautua M.P. Papali’i Taeu Masipau.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer during an interview last year, Namulauulu said Parliament is a chance to further his service to Samoa.

“It’s a golden opportunity to raise my hand and push to be part of the decision making for the country,” said Namulauulu.

“I have always been involved with village matters and I’m passionate about serving the community…I want to serve my constituency and be their voice in Parliament.”

A former president of the Samoa Chamber of Commerce and the General Manager of Federal Pacific Insurance, Namulauulu hopes to use his knowledge and experience to benefit his constituents.

“I can always live in Apia, live a comfortable life and enjoy my bread and butter,” he said.

“But there is nothing more after that. I have a passion to see children in villages develop in education, business and sports…that is the kind of potential that needs to be realised up there (decision making level).”

Determination and hard work was the key to his success.

When he was young, Namulauulu left his family in Savai’i so he could get an education in Apia.

“There was never a comfort zone for me,” he said. “Everything that comes my way is a challenge and I believe in God’s gift to people.” For 15 years, Namulauulu was involved in rugby. He has decided to move on after the end of his contract.

But a political career would not prevent him helping the Samoa Rugby Union, he said.

The candidate holds the matai title of Namulauulu and Leota from the village of Fogapoa.  He is 46 years old and married to Maria Leota, with two children.
