Samoa’s first baby in 2018, born at 12 midnight, could possibly be the first baby of the year.

Baby Tiara New Year Fatu was among six babies born just after New Year’s Eve.

This was confirmed by staff at the Tupua Tamasese Meole Hospital yesterday. 

Four baby girls and two baby boys were born on New Year’s Day.

Baby Tiara was born when the clock struck midnight.

The parents of the baby, Chara and Fiaula Fatu, hail from the village of Satapuala.

According to the midwife on duty at the time of birth, Tiara Tuulua, baby Tiara could be a possible candidate for the first baby born not only in Samoa, but also in the world for 2018.

“Tiara was born right on midnight,” she said. “There were no minutes or seconds after that, it was right at 12 a m."

“I took a few pictures and posted it on my social media page and someone from overseas made a comment that this could possibly be 2018’s first baby."

“This was very exciting for us, but we need more to confirm this. I was involved in delivering two other babies after that throughout my shift.”

According to Tiara, Dr. Manatua Lati delivered the baby. 

Tiara added the next baby after Tiara was a baby born some time after 1 a.m.
