Fathers need to walk in love

Love is an action word.

It’s not something you just preach about, it’s something people need to walk out and live by. As a father, it means hard work everyday to ensure your family members are looked after.

So says Lemusu Pulepule of Solosolo who believes the best examples of showing love are found in bringing up children.

“Let’s just not talk a lot about it but walk the talk,” he said.

“Yes we often hear so much about the importance of mothers and their love in children’s lives but fathers also have an important role. We also have to show love.”

Fathers, he said, lead the way.

“I don’t downplay the work done by mothers everyday but to me personally the mothers don’t do many heavy chores like we do.”

“They hardly go fishing, go to the plantation like we do.

We carry most of the heavy work and it is in carrying out those roles where we show our true love.”

The father caught up with the Village Voice while working on thatches to cover their faleo’o.   Disciplining the children is another area where fathers play a key role.

“The number of prisoners at Tafaigata is increasing because of the lack of discipline.”

“We all should know by now because it is happening everywhere in Samoa.”

“Our job is to teach and instruct them in the ways of God, by teaching and showing them how God wants them to live, he will surely raise God-fearing, respectful children.”

“If the father doesn’t train his children correctly, they will lead unhappy and dreadful lives.”

“A father’s nurturing love is the most important role that I have.”

“Children are born seeking love and acceptance from their parents. Because the father is the head of the household, they look to him as the primary caretaker.”

“I don’t mean to be arrogant but this is exactly what I’m doing because from the very start I realize we are the responsible ones.”

“Usually the mother is responsible for primarily nurturing their children, but the father’s role as a loving caretaker, should resemble the same example God has for us.”

“From providing, to disciplining and taking care of them, these traits can give the children of today a blessed future.”
