Iulai Su’a of Satapuala is a talented man.

The 34-year-old can do many things – including fishing and farming.

Depending on what his family needs, Iulai is quite comfortable in both roles.

“This is what I do every week to help out my family,” he said.

According to Iulai, farming and fishing is his lifestyle.

“Farming is not so hard but when it comes to fishing; it’s easy during daytime but a hard job at night time because of the many risks and challenges that comes with it.

“Fishing sometimes gets complicated but I don’t mind doing it, I think getting used to it has made me learn not to be scared anymore. I just go with the flow.”

Iulai looks after a family of six.

“No one works; this is what we all do. This is how we survive.

“Some are farmers, some are fishermen and some are just like me, both farmer and fisherman.

“With this kind of life, sometimes we struggle real badly; you know when it comes to earning money because we don’t always earn money.

“But we know that and we have been through that experience so many times that I’ve learned to just accept whatever each day brings.”

Iulai is a single man.

“At the moment, I don’t have a family of my own and I haven’t thought about getting into one until I feel like I have contributed enough to my family now with the work that I’m doing.

“So when I get something from the plantation or the sea, then I just sell it at the stalls here and sometimes use it for food.

“That is the life I have. Nothing is hard and I always feel like I can handle anything.”
