GOLD COAST, Australia (AP) — Olympic diving silver medalist Brittany Broben has announced her retirement from international competition aged only 20, because of a recurring shoulder injury.

Broben won silver in the women's 10-meter platform event at the 2012 London Olympics aged 16. But she was forced to withdraw from the Australian team on the eve of this year's Rio de Janiero Games with a recurrence of the injury she has had for the last three years.

Broben said "I really wanted to dive at my best in Rio, and sadly that was not ultimately possible. I will always be so proud of the fact that I am an Olympic silver medalist and while I did not quite get to Rio, being selected in the team made me feel like a dual Olympian."
