The arrival of December and the festive season is a reminder about the importance of giving.

That was the thought behind the donation made by Aulotu ole Mauga to help the residents of the Home of the Aged at Mapuifagalele.

The ‘Aulotu ole Mauga’ from Our Lady of Mount Carmel  Catholic Church, is located on Mt Vaea and is led by Parish Priest, Father Mauola Leilua.

A member of the church, Lasi Ott, told the Sunday Samoan it was the first time such a donation was made to Mapufagalele.

“This time around we donated fruits, vegetables, bags of rice, bags of flour, bags of sugar, milk, goodies and a cattle beast to assist in the preparing the holiday meals for the elders,” she said.

“The holiday is all about giving without a thought of getting anything in return and the feeling of achievement naturally comes because we see joy in people on the receiving end.”

Ms. Ott, on behalf of the Aulotu ole Mauga, commended the Sisters for their service and dedication showed towards the elderlies.

Among the group who presented the gifts were Luatua Ollie Reupena, Leaupepe Tai Toleafoa and Telesia Tupai.

Aulotu ole Mauga’s Deacon, Tupa’i Ioane was unable to attend.

Sister Lucy accepted the donation on behalf of Mapuifagalele.

“We can’t thank the donors enough for continuing to offer assistance through donating food for the elders. The help goes a long way.

“It’s a reminder of the Bible verse Acts 20:35 which says – In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive’.

“Thank you Aulotu ole Mauga and its members. God bless you all.”
