The Manu Samoa Sevens has crashed out of the Hamilton Sevens Cup finals after losing to Fiji, 12-10, in a thrilling quarterfinal that went down to the wire.

With their tails up 10-7 with the time on the clock up, all Falemiga Selesele had to do was secure the ball and they would have been home and dry.

Alas he couldn’t and when it scooted out, Fiji picked it up, winning the sprint to the line to score and win the game.

It was heartbreaking stuff, especially for the Manu Samoa Sevens who clearly disrupted Fiji’s flow for most of the match.

It’s a loss they would be kicking themselves over.

Fiji drew first blood, 7-0.

Samoa came back through a Gordon Langkilde try. He was at the receiving end of a brilliant line pass from Tila Mealoi.

Tom Iosefo showed great speed to outpace Fiji’s defense to score Samoa’s second try. Both conversions weren’t successful and it proved the difference in the end.

Fiji scored a last second try to seal the match.
