The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio, supports the call for the Government to pay the salaries of teachers at Mission Schools. The call was made by Member of Parliament of Gagaifomauga No.3, Faaulusau Rosa Duffy Stowers. Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Loau said this is something he also spoke to Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi about.

Samoa to host close to 4,000 athletes

Close to 4,000 athletes will gather in Samoa for the Pacific Games 2019. This was announced during a press conference at the Samoa Sports Facilities Authority on Tuesday where it was also said that all athletes will be staying in hotels.

Samoa Sports Facilities Authority C.E.O., Moefaauo Polailevao Salale Moananu, says the Pacific Games facilities are in good condition. Moefaauo said Samoa was able to maintain its facilities after the 2007 South Pacific Games despite being used for the Small Island Developing States (S.I.D.S.) meeting and the Youth Commonwealth Games.

The Pacific Games Council meeting held at Taumeasina Island Resort ended on Monday. The meeting focused on the sports programme for 2019 and later on delegates toured the facilities that will be used by the athletes.

Man tells of deadly Sunday discovery

The Police are working on identifying the body of a man who was found dead at the Tiapapata River on Sunday. When the Samoa Observer visited the area yesterday, a man who gave his name as “Falefa” spoke to the Samoa Observer about the horrific scene he encountered. “I went on Sunday afternoon to swim there and that’s when I saw a body,” he told the Samoa Observer.
