The Supreme Court has officially accepted a motion to withdraw an election petition alleging bribery and treating against Alataua i Sisifo’s Member of Parliament, Ali’imalemanu Alofa Tuuau.

The decision was announced by the Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asue Falefatu Sapolu yesterday. 

The matter had been rescheduled 14 days after petitioner, Lafaitele Patrick Leitaualesa, indicated his willingness to withdraw the petition, as part of the withdrawal process.

Yesterday, lawyer, Unasa Iuni Sapolu, informed the Court that the matter had been settled between the parties.

She added that a public notice about the agreement had been published and there were no other issues. 

Lawyer for the respondent, Amelia Faasau, then filed an application to withdraw the counter petitions and informed.

In response, Chief Justice Patu announced: “The election petition in relation to the territorial constituency is therefore withdrawn by leave, the security for cost paid by the petitioner has to be returned.”
