Jobless? Staying at home?

No problem.

You have an equally important role.

So says Gaugatao Ropeti, of Vaitele Fou.

The young man told the Village Voice he doesn’t work but he is as busy as any member of his family who works.

That’s because there is a lot to do.

“I don’t work but I am in charge of doing all of the chores in the house,” he said.

The Village Voice caught up with Gaugatao while he was on his way to fetch firewood for cooking purposes.

“For me, I know that I have so many responsibilities at the house.

“Sometimes I think I do more work, than of those in my family who are actually working,” he said.

“What I mean is that I cook, clean, do the washing and yet people we just sit on our bums everyday.”

According to Gaugatao, he believes young people are pillars of the village.

“When there are projects, whom does the village council depend on. It is us, the youth and we have a huge role in the village affairs.

“While I am unemployed, I do all the chores at the house. It means I have the same responsibility as people who are working and providing money to assist with family affairs.”

Gaugatao believes that each and every person has a calling in the family, village and church and that no one is useless in this life.

The Vaitelefou resident said so many people just blame young people for what has gone wrong in the world.

“I alone believe that children who are disciplined well will do well in life,” he said.

“But that starts at home.”
