Leaky house a problem in the rainy season

There is something about a house that you live in.

It is not just a building, but a home.

Sadly this is not the case for Latu Mateo.

Mr. Mateo told the Village Voice team that his house needs a lot of repairs, especially since there has been so much rain lately in Samoa.

“We are coming to the season where there is so much rain and the weather is also changing due to climate change and my house is not in a good condition.

My house is not like those modern houses, it is a Samoan house (falesamoa) and the roof leaks,” he said.

As of now, he does not have a family so he lives alone at Vaitele-Uta.

“I am not married and I do not have kids either. So it is just me at home in my own house,” he said.

He said his house was the only problem that he has right now.

But Samoa has changed a lot in terms of development and the cost of living.

“There has been a huge shift within our country, new roads, new buildings such as hotels and so many other things that are undergoing development.

“There are so many shops too and especially the Chinese shops which have been of the greatest help not only to me, but the rest of the people of Samoa too,” he said.

He is certain that the only reason so many people struggle is because they do not work and they mostly avoid going to church.

“The way of life is really simple if we work hard. We must always be committed and to discipline ourselves to maintain a hard working behaviour.

“The other thing is that people need to go to church more often because it is the only place we can find hope.”
