Voters have their say

It wasn’t just the election candidates, their supporters and families who felt relieved after yesterday’s General Elections.

For the voters, they were equally thrilled that it has finally ended.

At Mulifanua, mother of four, Tai Leina, said the voting day meant no more visits from the different election committees.

Asked about her vote, she said she faces a tough choice.  “We have four candidates for this election from the two that we had in 2011,” she said. “The four candidates include the two from Manono, one from Apolima and the other one from us at Mulifanua.”

Her candidate of choice is Ifopo Filisi.

“He’s been good to our constituency,” she said. “I’m pretty sure that he’ll win.”

At Samatau, Sulusi To’omaga believes its time for Samatau and Falelatai to have a new voice in Parliament.

“I am glad to say that I have voted,” he said. “I voted for Asalele Salapu. I know he will do a good job to represent our village of Pata Falelatai.”

Sulusi said he has made a request to his candidate to fix their access road.

“One of my wishes for our next elected MP is that he needs to fix our road...it’s really bad especially during the rainy season.”

At Siumu, 79-year-old, Siotala Lafaele, said she was glad to have made a contribution to the election.

“This is my voice for my beloved Samoa while I’m still alive,” she said. “It was really good to see that everything is fine today especially the weather.

“Whoever will win, I’ll give my full support and may the peace of the Lord be upon Samoa.”

Fiu Maiva Tito, of Salani Falealili, echoed similar sentiments. “God has been good to us and the weather proves that today,” he said.

“I am from New Zealand. I am excited to be here where my roots are and give my voice for my choice for Samoa.” Asked who he thought would win, he said: “The real gold is tested in the fire. I wish Maiava Viiga all the best.”

Of the five candidates at Falealili East, Fuimaono Te’o Samuelu won.
