The facilities are being used

Dear Editor,

Re: Strange decisions in sports

Tuanaimato's Gym 1 and 2 are some of the most used facilities in Samoa.

Gym 1 has hosted events almost on a non-stop scale since 2007, especially weightlifting tournaments and events.

The whole area was used for S.I.D.S in 2014 and quite recently the hockey field was used for Independence day. There was also the 2015 Youth Commonwealth Games. The fields around Tuanaimato are now host to various social sports, especially soccer.

Point conceded for the lack of events at the Aquatic Centre.

However, the maintenance costs for pool chlorination will always be there whether the pool is indoor or outdoor. It makes no difference.

Seeing as the $20 million tala referred to the processes for keeping the water clean, these costs would've been there for an outdoor pool as well.

Both types of pools require clean water.

One thing they should consider is perhaps turning the dive pool into a waterpark. Add some slides in for the kids. Turn it into a waterslide park.

Charge $2-5 tala for entry and the Aquatic Centre would pay for itself when not in use for competitions. Just take the slides down when the pools are needed for hosting events.
