The future of the Super Nine Legends Rugby Franchise for the Anoama’a, Aleipata and Atua districts looks bright and sharp.

Yesterday, Schwartz Construction Ltd. stepped up and signed a sponsorship contract with the Legends Rugby Franchise at the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) headquarters.

The three-year deal promises a $20,000 sponsorship, with $15,000 worth of financial support and $5,000 worth of in-kind support to the team.

According to the Managing Director of Schwartz Construction Limited, Alai’asa Schwartz Hunt, Schwartz Construction is excited to help develop the sport, especially the players.

He also said he is grateful for the opportunity given by the Legends Board of Directors for his company to be one of the main sponsors of the team for the next three years of Super Nine competitions.

“We are excited and grateful for the opportunity from the Legends Board for us to come in and assist the Atua Legends for the upcoming Super Nine competitions.

“We have stepped in because we want to contribute to the development of the sport in Samoa, especially developing the local players.”

Alai’asa also mentioned the Super Nine competition has been the best rugby tournament in Samoa, in terms of exposing the local talents to the next level of rugby.

Legends Rugby Franchise Treasurer, Silafau Lei’u Ioane said the much needed help couldn’t have come in a better time.

He says some of the financial challenges encountered by the team last year would be addressed with the help from Schwartz.

“Our team is made up of players from various locations, from Anoama’a, Aleipata and Atua, so getting them to train is a hard task.

“So this much needed help will help us pay all the expenses needed to get our team assembled for trainings and our games as well.

“We will also be looking at using the help we have received to pay our players who will be playing.”

Silafau also added assistance like this will also motivate other players in the Legends to represent Samoa in the national teams in the future.

Legends Rugby team took fourth place after being knocked out by the Eels of Vaimauga Franchise during the semifinal clash last year.

Current Legends Rugby team players representing Samoa in the Manu Samoa sevens include Tila Mealoi, La’aloi Leilua and Tom Iosefo.
