Twelve organisations have been blessed with grants from the Private Sector Support Programme, administered by the government.

The organisations benefitted from a grant totaling $200,000 to help them fulfill their mandates.

The organizations are registered with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour under the Incorporate Society Legislation.

The Minister of Commerce, Industry and Labour, Lautafi Fio Purcell, presented the cheques.

“This event is the result of a process where Private Sector Organizations get a grant from the government based on their business in the private sector and in satisfying criterias that the Ministry of Labour sets out which requires them to fulfill and for them to be able to qualify for this amount of money that the government gives out,” he said.

“The grant really is to provide assistance for the administration and the overhead costs and just to make sure that they are well supported in that area of their businesses.”

The initiative started in 2008 with a grant of $40,000.

“The number has increased significantly throughout the years and so are the number of people and businesses as well.”
