A two-day Post-Election Seminar for Members of Parliament is to be held next week, starting Tuesday 10 May at the temporary Parliament precincts at Tuanaimato.  

The seminar is jointly funded by the Parliament of Samoa and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (C.P.A) of which Samoa is a member. 

It is offered to democratic Parliaments in the Commonwealth after their respective Elections to assist in capacity building and familiarization for newly elected Members. 

It draws on the expert pool of resource persons in the Commonwealth in the area of parliamentary law and procedure.  

The design for this Seminar follows on from an Induction Programme earlier offered by the Parliament Secretariat and a Parliamentary Symposium early April 2016 and is expected to expand on the notion of parliamentary democracy from an outsiders perspective.

Following the two-day Members Seminar will be a one day session for Parliamentary staff on specialized areas of parliamentary practice and procedure.

The Resource Team include Prof Elizabeth McLeay and Prof Graham Hassall both from Victoria University, NZ, Prof David Clark, Flinders University, Adelaide and Prof Richard Herr, of the University of Tasmania School of Law & Coordinator/Lecturer for the Parliamentary Law and Procedures Graduate Course offered by the University of Tasmania.
