Experienced and well credentialed coach Frances Solia has been appointed head coach for Netball Samoa national team leading to the 2019 World Cup.

Solia a Samoa national player for many years retired in 2012 and has since moved into coaching and administrative roles at Kapi-Mana Netball and Netball Central Zone.  In 2015 Solia was appointed Assistant Coach for Mojo Pulse and NPC Head Coach for Kapi Mana Team.

For Solia it is her way of giving back.

“It is a privilege and honour to be appointed as the head coach of the national team.  It’s been my dream that once I retired I would give back to my country.  Samoa has given me so many opportunities to not only represent my nation but to help others become better athletes”.

Netball Samoa believes Solia will bring her vast array of knowledge and skills with the understanding of our challenges.

Solia continues to say “We are at a rebuilding phase right now, and this is an exciting challenge.  With World Cup in 2019 there is plenty of work to be done.

Between myself and Netball Samoa we have been doing lots of planning.

We have a fixture in December this year and whilst it is not a qualifying series, it allows myself to gauge a better understanding of those that can perform at an international level.

Trials will begin in July; however I intend to come over to Samoa in April to work with the local athletes running skills and drills before the big trial in July, where overseas players are welcomed to come along”.

Netball Samoa is looking forward to working with Solia and the opportunities for our local players to excel.
