Cabinet to name new P.S.C. Chairman

Cabinet is expected to announce a new Chairman for the Public Service Commission (P.S.C.) by the end of the week.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Public Enterprises, Lautafi Fio Purcell.

Lautafi clarified that P.S.C. is not under his portfolios, rather it is under Prime Minister Tuilaepa Dr. Sa’ilele Malielegaoi.

But he said the current Chairman, Tuu’u Dr. Ieti Taulealo, has finished his contract.

He could not confirm whether Tuu’u had reapplied for the position.

“His contractual term has come to an end,” Lautafi said.

“The Cabinet has already made a decision on the new Commissioner and we will know that decision within the next day or two.”

Lautafi declined to confirm a name.

But he insisted that Tuu’u’s contract has ended and that “Cabinet finalised its decision last week.”

It was not possible to get a comment from Tuu’u yesterday.

When his office was contacted, his Secretary, Rasela, told the Samoa Observer that Tuu’u no longer works for P.S.C.

“He’s no longer working with us; his last day was last week,” she said.

“We received the F.K. (Cabinet paper) last week and we will probably have a new Chairman by this Friday.”

Asked to speak to the Acting Chairman, Rasela said: “There is no Acting Chairman at the moment, only the Chairman has the authority to talk to the media.

“And so no one is authorised to talk to the media.”
