Govt. should want their people to be healthy

Dear Editor

Re: Put people first

Coming from the UK where we are privileged to have the NHS and as an NHS worker myself, I would say that it is a bit of both. If the government is taking your hard earned money and promising its citizens health care then it must at least provide some form of education and protection to those who are ill or vulnerable.

People do need to be responsible for themselves of course but unless they work in healthcare they might not have an understanding of how to become responsible.

But in any case I would think that a government would want its people to have good health as good health promotes a more stable economy in the long run.

There will always be those who choose to be unhealthy, make bad choices, and act irresponsible but I would hope that that is very few.

Of course I could just be too soft hearted and optimistic! perhaps the answer is mostly the individual, some of the government and some of the community? what do you think Niuveve
