Single parent, 54 year old Niufafo Faletui from Leusoalii, works at one of the Tyre Shop near the town area but when he’s off work he uses his time to go fishing for his family

“This is what I do wherever I have my spare time from work.

“Instead of just planting taro I go fishing to get something for my family

“Because life nowadays we don’t have to depend on what we earn from our work, we have to work hard for our family in other ways.

‘We all know that things are not the same anymore, everything in life is costly so by fishing we have a supply of food and we can earn money too.

“By working in the plantation and fishing can earn more money than the wages from our formal work.

“As a father I see that many things in our country have changed compare to the olden days.

“In the olden days it was simple and easy and some people do forget about working in the plantation and fishing but they put their job first.

“Every family needs a plantation for living and the sea for fishing because our people are used to it from the very start.

“When it comes to family obligations it costs us lots of money not counting water and electricity bills and school fees for our children.

“But we all do it so instead of complaining we need to work it out by our own selves for the sake of our families.”

“It’s life,” he said.

“All we have to do is to work for our family and make sure that our children are satisfied with our work.

“Family is very important to everyone and so we have to look for ways so that we can provide for our family and children.”
