Fiji’s loss is Samoa’s gain

Meet Viviene and her daughter Serena Rowell from North Auckland, New Zealand who have only been in Samoa for just one day.

We caught up with them at the Savalalo Flea Market looking around at some of the Samoan handicrafts.

The pair is staying at Sinalei Reef Resort.

“This is our first time in Samoa,” said Mrs. Rowell.

“Our original destination was Fiji and we had already done our bookings but things didn’t work out and so we decided to come to Samoa.

“We also wanted to make sure that we visited a country that we had never been to before so that we could have a new experience.”

As to why they chose Samoa, Serena said because they wanted to experience the culture and meet the people who are living here.

“We wanted to know the kind of lifestyle that the people of Samoa have,” she said.

“We also wanted to enjoy the warm weather and especially the culture.

“So far I’m very surprised and the people are absolutely beautiful and friendly. It’s way different from back home.

“It’s much greener and relaxed and it is such a happy place.

“I see people taking pride in what they do and their God-given talents and I can see how much they value their family.”

Mrs. Rowell went on to say that they wanted to come down to the flea market and see the local products.

“It’s amazing how the prints on the clothes were done,” she said.

“I can see that maybe each of these prints means something in life and it’s great how the person who has done it is so creative.

“I know we haven’t been here that long but we will make the most of it because this country has got so much to offer to the outside world.”

As for other things they want to do in Samoa, the two ladies have plans.

“We want to go out to the beaches, ride around the island and see what historic places there are,” said Serena.

“We will be hiring a vehicle to go around the island because I want to see more of Samoa and experience the life style.

“There is so much more here than what we hear about and I think it is better to come and have a look at it and experience the life so that we would know how important the small things are.

“We will be leaving next week and hopefully we can make the most of our time while we are here.”
