The chorus of laughter emanating from the aged, smiling faces on their wheelchairs provides unquantifiable-yet-irrefutable proof of the success of J.I.C.A. Alumni Association Clean-Up activity last Saturday, giving a clean healthy environment to the Home for the Aged at Mapuifagalele.

The Clean-Up activity at Mapuifagalele is an annual J.I.C.A. Alumni Association activity dispersing the non-decomposable and removing unwanted heavy items around the compound, mowing and cutting down fallen trees, etc.

The Association after the cleaning donated all the Cleaning Tools and Equipment to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

The activity has come up a perfect timing assisting while Samoa is currently at its post cyclone Gita clean up.

President of J.I.C.A. Association, Mata’u Esau, said it was a pleasure to help.

“It really tugged at our heart strings thinking about this Place going through difficult times and a lot of members wanted to be involved in a project with an outcome they could really see,” he said.

“We were lucky enough to see the elderly enjoying outside and that really made all the work we put in worthwhile.”

The Association is investigating providing more permanent charity activity for the place at Mapuifagalele.

The activity was well attended by members of the J.I.C.A. Alumni Association, J.I.C.A. Volunteers and staff.  The Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held later on this month, 17 March 2018 at T.A.T.T.E. Convention Centre.
