Meet Junior Fata.

The 21-year-old from Satuimalufilufi is a fisherman.

The father of one fishes every day to feed his family and to make money.

“I don’t have a job,” he said. “Me and my wife depend on the sea for our money, for our livelihood every day.”

Junior fetches seaweed and he is a free diver. 

 “I sell five packs of seaweed every day. Sometimes I make $80, for me it is enough because it’s only us and our daughter.”

As a young father, his priority is his family.

“I provide for my family through fishing. So the sea gives us money.

“As for the future, I want to have a job and earn enough money to develop our family.”

Junior also expressed concerns about the changes and challenges with the young generation of Samoa.

“It happens because of us (generation) not using time wisely,” he said.

As for everyday life, he has a simple philosophy.

“Work hard and make the most of life. Work for your family, and do something useful. Don’t waste time.”
