It’s an issue of urbanisation

Dear Editor,

I totally agree that the salaries of those top government officials are ridiculously high while the rest of the country is struggling with peanuts.

All these street vendor kids are from around the town area.

These are the people originally from Savai’i or the rural areas moving to the town area to look after someone else’s land or house or simply trying to get away from the faaSamoa.

These parents do not understand the terms “child abuse” or “negligence”.

If you are a Samoan living here, years before human rights and CRC were introduced then you will understand of what I mean.

I’m saying this because I know exactly where the majority of these kids are from; I even know some of the families.

Some of these parents are too lazy to look for a job so they found this easy way out to utilize the kids for selling goods on the street.

I can honestly say that I felt disgusted when I saw the salaries of these government heads but I can also honestly say that if these people move back to where they’re from and work on their lands, they will be better off.
