A mother’s love

Ali’itasi Lepou from Sa’anapu is a hardworking mother.

Having worked so hard to raise six children, the 51-year-old says they are her blessings from God.

“My greatest wish for my children is for them to know that no matter what, I’ll always be here to love and care for them,” she said.

“One of my sons is a seafarer and he’s our number one supporter for our family, my other children also have families and they’ve all grown up.

“I don’t want to go into details about how I struggled in the past for my children to be well educated, to become good adults in the future.

“But I thank the man above for the wisdom and the strength that He has given us to survive.”

Their plantation provides for the family.

“We have our own plantation and as I’ve mentioned before, I am looking at ways to contribute to the development of my family, this is all about love.

“Our plantation provides us with food and money every day, with the help of my other children,” Aliitasi said.

“I always go to the plantation whenever I have time.

“If you don’t have that kind of  love for your family and your children you won’t make it in life.”

She explained that being a mother is not easy.

“Being a mother is learning about strength that you didn’t know you had,” Aliitasi said.

“We are everywhere to take care of our family and that’s our responsibility and we all know love is the best thing to have in life, whether you’re a mother, father, youth, matai, pastor or whatever position you hold.

“I tell you, no matter how hard life gets, it always goes on when we have that special place in our heart for love.

“Sometimes that strength is greater than anything in this world and it always goes together with love.”

She said the role of the man was leadership, while the role of a woman was to be a source of strength and support.

“Fathers can do whatever they want, but a woman with courage is always there to look after the children and the family every day.

“We have to be strong in our calling because this is why God created us, to support our family,” Aliitasi said.
