The story of a van allegedly making its way around Samoa attempting to kidnap young girls has taken an interesting turn.

The Police have charged the man who claimed to have attempted to stop the alleged kidnapping at Vaitele two weeks ago.

Liua Vaasili Savai’inaea has been charged with giving false information to the Police, in relation to the issue.

This was confirmed by Police Superintendent, Soloi Iosefo Tuimaunei, in response to questions from the Samoa Observer.

The accused was arrested Tuesday night and is in the custody of Police.

Last week, the Police announced they were investigating the allegations that a white Toyota 15 seater van, with blue stripes at the bottom, tinted windows and broken rear windshield window, is being used for the attempted abduction of victims at night time.

This week the Police issued a statement cautioning about the number of false and misleading information being shared and circulated on social media.

They also warned members of the public to refrain from taking matters into their own hands and that damages to properties as a result of individuals taking matters into their own hands is a criminal offence.

Superintendent Soloi warned that making false information to the Police is a crime.

“S.P.S. also encourages the public to report any matter of suspicious nature to a police station near you or telephone 22222.”
