Everyone has a part to play in a strong family.

And they should do it well if they want a better community.

So says 29-year-old Lene Leiataua.

Living with his sister and her children, Lene’s part is to work to help his family.

“My parents are both gone so I thought to myself, well I should look for a job to help my family in every way I can.

“I want to help out because my sister is doing everything for our family but for me I got nothing important to do so that’s why I decided to go look for a job.”

Lene works for a hardware store. His pay is used for daily expenses and food.

The cost of living doesn’t scare him at all.

“For me personally, our people should work hard for their families. Of course everyone struggles but that’s life.”

Lene said he also wants to start a plantation to help his family further.

“The money I earned from my work is for my family especially in terms of family fa’alavelave and church donations.

Water, electricity bills and schools fees are other expenses.”

Asked about what he wants to do in the future, Lene said: “Will deal with that when we get there.

For now, my family is my focus and I will do everything possible to help.”
