Faleatiu and Satui schools get help
Two more schools will benefit from the generosity of the government of Japan.
Faleatiu and Satuimalufilufi were among three schools that took part in a joint signing ceremony for Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (G.G.P.) at the Embassy of Japan in Apia, last week.
The schools, along with Sagone, will benefit from Japan’s assistance with a total of $930,942.
Faleatiu Primary School will benefit from $223,250 to carry out reconstruction of classroom floors, ceilings and lightings for its current school building.
The money will also be used to reconstruct a staff room, a computer lab and a toilet block.
The current school building of Faleatiu Primary School is in very poor condition with incomplete construction.
Most classrooms do not have ceilings with very poor lighting, insufficient and unhygienic toilets which do not meet the standards of Minimum Service Standards (M.S.S.) implemented by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.) in 2010.
As for Satuimalufilufi Primary School, they received $421,914.
The money will be used to reconstruct its current school building damaged by cyclones of the past years.
The project includes eight new classrooms, a staff room, a library or computer lab and a toilet block.
