Seek God first, Eddie tells youth of Samoa

Meet 20-year-old Eddie Leleitu from Falelauniu.

The Village Voice interviewed him while on his way home from his church’s youth rally.

“I’ve just got back from youth rally and over a hundred attended today’s Bible study,” Eddie said.

“We started early because many of those who attended needed to go to work before nine o’clock and I think youths in our country need to seek God first every day.”

He said the rally was all about deepening a person’s “knowledge about God’s unconditional love.”

“We’re not chosen because of our wisdom, beauty, intelligence, wealth or popularity but because of His love.

“God chose you and I in our weakness so that He can demonstrate His strength and might in what you allow Him to do through each and every one of us.

“Especially the height you allow Him to take you, and if you do not love God you cannot serve Him especially and your family appropriately.”

It’s God’s love that motivates Eddie to take care of his parents while his older siblings go to work every day.

“Many young people today think that taking care of their parents is not a blessing,” he said.

“To be honest, it’s a blessing for me, parents are gifts from God, the more we treat, feed, obey and look after them, the more blessings we will receive maybe not today, but in the future.”

At home every day, Eddie wakes up early in the morning to prepare breakfast for his parents and carry out other chores around the house.

“The only time I’m away from home is when I attend youth rallies on Tuesday and Friday nights.

“These programmes have helped me a lot in so many ways; it helps me to stay focused on the Word of God especially in looking after my parents’ every day.”

At home his parents continue to encourage him to stand firm in what he believes in.

“My parents tell me that if I’m in trouble, apart from praising and thanking God, I should take a step of faith by going to bed and sleeping off the problem.

“To be honest, this is my parents one way to handle some problems in our family when we disobey them; they just put everything in God’s hands.

“I thank God for them.”
