Why we are hurting

Dear Editor,

Re: “What corruption? We’re transparent.”

Only an independent auditor can tell us the truth.

I know what is draining the Samoa government and its people. It is the interest on the government loan. One billion tala loan at 10% interest a year means 100million tala is to be paid for the interest only. Samoa has to produce 100million tala in one year to pay the interest only, the 1billion tala loan still needs to be paid back.

Let's say the interest is 5% we still have to pay back 50million tala a year, which is a lot of money. It is the interest on the loan that is killing us.

When Samoa does not produce 50million tala the government has to borrow more money to pay the interest only etc etc until the government declares bankruptcy.

That is why the P.M. needs to control all organisations and all departments (including the Manu Samoa, etc) where money or aid money is involved.

That is why the Manu Samoa players are not paid at all or paid peanuts. That is why Sevens Rugby won't make it to Rio.

As I have said before as long as the Government is involved in Rugby we will never see success again. Samoa Rugby will forever be stuck in developmental stage because of the money.
