Can you help Ave with a water tank?

Water is life.

Ave Siloli of Mutiatele Aleipata knows this.

He is a 31-year-old father of three young children.

Speaking to the Village Voice, Mr. Siloli said he worries about their water situation because of his kids.

“My kids are not old enough to do the work I’m doing; I mean my eldest is a 5 year old, and then my other two children are 4 and 2 years old,” Mr. Siloli said.

The father of three was on his way to pick them up from school when the Village Voice met up with him.

“That is why this issue matters to me; life without water is hard and scary,” he said.

“Right now, we don’t have a water tank and since we live in the forestry area of Mutiatele, we fetch water from the waterfall in the mountain area but at this time with this kind of weather; there’s no water because it’s basically dry.

“So you know; our water situation depends on the weather. That is the only problem that we have on our side; water.

“Considering that we are one of the families that do not have access to the water system; it is impossible for us to have our own tap and if the mountains cannot provide water, then I just take a walk to families in the inner village and fetch water from them.”

Mr. Siloli told Village Voice that their family moved from the inner village 3 years ago. They are also one of the families who had been affected by the 2009 tsunami which was the reason for their relocation.

“You know the programme that was implemented for those who had been affected by the tsunami where they donated water tanks; ended on the year the natural disaster occurred and by that; I mean we have never heard or seen from them again and that’s why we are living like this with no access to water.

“So that’s why I want to plead for help for a water tank so that we can at least store water if it rains.

“We need water for our food especially for my children.”
