The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

That is the opinion of Peni Fagoi, 49, of Vailoa Aleipata.

“I am single with no children but I have sacrificed everything I wanted, to care for my family,” he said.

“The work I do, I do it wholeheartedly with honesty and integrity so by the time my journey ends on this earth, I want to leave a good impression on the people around me and set good examples to the young generation of my family as they are growing up.”

Peni lives with his sister and her husband.

He helps them with everything.

“Life these days makes me speechless in fact I don’t even know the right words to explain it…

“All I know is that everything has changed… not from hard to easy but easy to extremely hard.

“It’s a whole new level of hardship and if you don’t drop a single sweat from working you don’t earn what you deserve in this life…”

“In my whole life, I have put aside what I have always wanted for myself just to be a good sibling to my sister. She’s younger than me so I’m just carrying on my responsibility as a brother.

“I have many given talents from God that I am using now to serve and support my family,” he said

Fishing is one of his many given talents.

“I’m a fisherman and I don’t fish to sell, I do it to feed my family. It’s an easy way to save money and its good for our health and energy and I am also a farmer.”

He added: “In this time of our lives… poverty exists because we rely too much on imported goods when we can still depend on our surroundings.”
