The Upolu Savai’i Boxing concluded their two-day Tri-Nations Boxing competition last night against teams from American Samoa and New Zealand.

The tournament was held at the Poloa Compound, the home of Upolu and Savai’i Boxing Ring, in Vaitele on Wednesday and Thursday.

“The tournament was a well-organized and our boys enjoyed the experience,” New Zealand Boxing team Coach Graig Mc-Dougall said.

The Upolu Savai’i boxers dominated by winning seven out of 10 fights during the finals last night.

New Zealand boxing team claimed two fights last night while the American Samoa team claimed one win during the finals.

Mr. Mc-Dougall said his boys were surprised at the skills displayed by the Samoan boxers.

Samoa Amateur Boxing Secretary Faletolu Su’a said the tournament was successful in preparing the Samoa team.

“The tournament was used by the Samoa Amateur Boxing Association to test their final team for the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Vanuatu.

“They were also fortunate to go up against the New Zealand Development squad that is preparing for the Commonwealth Games next year.”

The Samoa Amateur Boxing Association is looking to add more tournaments like this in the future.
