Participants at the final Ending Violence Against women Roundtable of 2016 guided by the theme “Representations of Violence in the Media”.

Held at the F.A.O conference room, the panelists were Tuiloma Sina Retzlaff, Mata’afa Keni Lesa, Michael Tamanikaiyaroi, and Misa Vicky Lepou.

The discussion focused on the media as not only a source of information but as a prevention tool to help change attitudes towards gender-based violence.

The desire to see more community engagement, journalists with a deeper understanding of the complexities around gender based violence, and for faith-based organizations to become involved were expressed not only by the panelists but by the audience as well.

Rev Archdeacon Taimalelagi Fagamalama Tuatagaloa and former Minister Asi Eikeni Fruean were also present to share their experiences and knowledge. Photo: UN Women.
