More polling booths for election

When the nation goes to the polls in March, there will be 358 polling booths around the country compared to 290 in the last election in 2011.

This comes after some candidates complained several voters were unable to cast their votes in the election because of the limited number of polling booths in their constituencies.

Acting Electoral Commissioner, Faimalomatumua Mathew Lemisio, told Radio New Zealand International that his office is hoping no voters will be left out in the March 4 polls as constituencies with the highest number of voters will have additional polling booths.

Registered voters have been confirmed at 115,741 and the nomination period for candidates will last for one week from February 8 - 12.

The withdrawal of nominations will be from 15-19 February. The Parliament will be dissolved on the 29th of this month.
