Driver of church van fined $400 for drunk driving

A thirty-one-year old man has been charged and convicted of one count of negligent driving and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tamalepa Patu has been fined $400 by the District Court.

The sentence was handed down by District Court Judge Fepulea’i Ameperosa Roma.

Kenneth Misi was the prosecutor.

According to the Police summary of facts, the incident occurred on 4 March, 2017 at the four corners at Vaimoso.

“On Saturday 4th of March, 2017 at around 5:10 am an incident occurred at the four corners at Vaimoso and this road is called Vaitele Street Road.

“The vehicle involved is a Toyota Hiace it was travelling from South heading North when it swirled on the side and crashed into one of the traffic lights at Vaimoso.

“The police arrived at the scene and they conducted a screening test on the diver and they found that he was under the influence of alcohol.”

Patu, from Vaiala, was order to pay $400 or he would be jailed for six months.

The defendant is married with children and vehicle belonged to E.F.K.S. TV.
