The Samoa Touch Association completed its N.P.C. International tournament last Friday.

Overall, Queensland Samoa won the Men’s and Open Mix category, while the East Steppers won the Women’s division.

The tournament was held at Marist Sport Complex in Lotopa, from Wednesday 9th-Friday 11th.

N.P.C. International Touch Tournament was a three day event hosted by the Samoa Touch Association.

President Lemauga Hobart Va’ai said this is the second year of the event.

Lemauga said this tournament help to get Samoans in Australia to represent Samoa, and help develop the local talents.

“This tournament aims to identify and prepare Samoa’s National Touch team for the upcoming Rugby Touch World Cup in Malaysia 2019, as well as the South Pacific Games,” Lemauga said.

There were three teams in the competition. Two local teams East Steppers and West Tigers, and Queensland Samoa.

East Steppers women’s and Queensland Samoa women’s went head to head for the women’s final.

East Steppers won over this highly contested match, in extra time.

West tigers and Queensland Samoa both met in Men’s final and Mix’s final, resulting in favour of Queensland Samoa.

Captain of Queensland Samoa team Jesse Leituvae was proud of his team’s effort.

“We put so much effort into our preparation to get here for this tournament, trainings and fundraising but were so glad all the hard work has gone to place,” he said.

He said the competition was tough.

“This year has been better, seeing the Samoan teams giving us a real go, and witnessing how fast the sport has grown in Samoa”.

Leituave said their team will continue to participate in the N.P.C. in years to come.
