Fathers deserve to be spoiled every once in a while and why not let them enjoy a game of billiard.

This was emphasized at the Father’s Day Vailima Hideaway Pool table tournament held at Taumeasina Hideaway over the weekend.

There were eight teams for double category and 16 singles. The doubles played for cash prize money of $600 with a trophy and two grates of beer, while singles played for $300 including a trophy and a grate of beer.

Tournament coordinator, Mase Iona said the sole purpose was for all fathers to come together, play, have fun and enjoy.

“Playing billiard for us men or fathers to be exact, it’s a fulfilling game, the challenge and excitement is both there.

“Judging from the looks on the players, they are all excited and relaxed, most of the participants are from Taumeasina village.

“This is the first time we have done this, but we thank our major sponsor Vailima from Samoa Breweries for making this possible.”

He said Vailima provided assistance through trophies and cash prices for the winners.

The village mayor of Taumeasina Lua Palala Leuluaialii said it is the first time for such tournament to be hosted in their village.

“It has been three months since we have discussed this tournament in our village. Many of the players are very excited to be part of this event.

“This is really great especially for us fathers, which is why it was a much anticipated game for us,” Lua stated.

“The tournament has brought nothing but happiness to us here, others claim that some games lead to fights and disagreements but not in our village, we have a strong village council that upholds rules and regulations, to uphold the peace.”
