Allienaiah Penaia is the dux of Vaigaga Primary School in the 2018 academic year.

The twelve-year-old from Vaitele-Fou topped English, Samoan, social studies, basic studies, mathematics and physical education.

She was emotional when she was interviewed by the Samoa Observer.

“It feels exciting and I am so happy to be considered as the dux student of Vaigaga primary School 2018,” she said, and indicated that she is dedicating her achievements to her parents.

The support of her parents and extended family members ensured she walked the right path, she added.

But it was her grandmother who got the biggest praise from the top student. Allienaiah said her grandmother Elenoa Iopu was her role model and an inspiration.

Elenoa was emotional when she heard her granddaughter’s name being announced as the top student.

“I want to praise God for today, I was once a teacher here before which is why my children and grandchildren attended Vaigaga Primary School.

Seeing all these trophies that my daughter has received just brings joy into my heart,” she said.

Allienaiah is the only student from Vaigaga who made it to Samoa College, after sitting the exam and is ready to pursue her dreams of being successful.
