Former Assistant Commissioner of Prisons and Corrections Services, Ulugia Niuia Aumua, was yesterday granted the honour of becoming the holder of the Sauafea title at the village of Salelesi.

The 60-year-old received the blessings from his family and the village council as he embarked on his journey as one of the four orator chief (tulafale-ali’i) in the village.

“I am very happy to see that all of my families are here today to celebrate this special day with me,” he said.

“Living together in peace and harmony is the foundation of any Samoan family and that’s my calling in my family, to be a servant and a good leader.”

Sauafea Niuia said he was humbled by the honour.

“I feel very honoured, very privileged,” he said. “I know it’s not easy, but through God everything is possible. He is sufficient.”

The ceremony started with a church service conducted by Rev. Tamatasi Tuivanu of the Methodist Church at Fasito’o and Rev. Petaia Setu. This was followed by the blessing of the title by the chiefs of the village and traditional formalities.
