The Associate Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Fa’aso’otauloa Pati Taulapapa, presented the Forum Fisheries Agency Director General, James Movick with Samoan ceremonial items the ava bowl, and the Orator’s to’oto’o (talking staff) and fue (flywhisk).

Fa’aso’otauloa was among Pacific Ministers of Fisheries represented Samoa at the high-level national and regional briefing sessions with their regional secretariat, covering specific in-country issues they wish to raise.

The topics discussed are linked to the Future of Fisheries Roadmap, which itself was the outcome of similar consultative engagement and ongoing discussion by all Forum members.

“We’ve proposed a broad list of agenda items but the informal nature of these discussions mean we are more in consultative, responsive and proactive mode to workshop whatever issues our Ministers wish to raise.

We have found that this kind of exercise offers a great way for Ministers to enjoy free and frank exchanges with each other,” says F.F.A. Director General, James Movick.

Outcomes of the informal Ministerial may shape a more formal agenda and strategic directions as required from the Secretariat, moving towards the Forum Fisheries Committee meeting in May and the Ministerial in Australia, in July.

At the end of the meeting, all delegations received cartons of the iconic Solomon’s export- SolTuna- donated by the National Fisheries Department and SolTuna; as well as other gifts from the Secretariat.

Associate Minister Fa’aso’otauloa was accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer of M.A.F, Tilafono David Hunter.
