Family celebrates in Samoa

It’s time to relax and be jolly and what better place to do that than in Samoa where the pace of life is laid back and island time rules.

That’s exactly what Sue and Bernard Graeber from Albury, Australia, have been doing in Samoa.

The couple was joined by Sue’s brother, Terry Doyle, their two children, Cameron and Courtney and her partner, Jordan Wood.

“We came to celebrate our son, Cameron’s 21st birthday, that’s why we’re here,” said Sue.

“Also our son is still in university and he’s going to be a teacher, so he wanted to go somewhere tropical and warm to relax for a holiday.

“Then there was a half price deal on trip-a-deal and we took it.”

They were also fascinated with how friendly the Samoan people are inside the hotels and wherever they went to.

“The people even outside the resort were really good, everybody was friendly. We’ve been to other countries where you get hustled but they’re really friendly here,” Sue told the Dear Tourist team.

“Like at the market it was much friendlier because we’ve been to markets in Thailand and Vietnam where you get hassled all the time but here we say ‘no thank you’ and we’d be left alone which was really good.”

Despite the three consecutive days of rain, the family made the most of their time in Samoa by enjoying massages in the hotel, kayaking and snorkeling at Taumeasina. They also rented a car for two days to drive around the island and to see the Ma Tree, To Sua Ocean Trench, and Robert Louis Stevenson house and the waterfall.

“To Sua was great but not all of us got to go down the ladder, and the Robert Louis house was excellent. We’ve made the best of our time and have had a really lovely time in Samoa,” Sue said.

The family agreed they would recommend Samoa as a vacation destination to their families, especially the To Sua Ocean Trench, snorkeling and the waterfalls.
